Boston portrait photography – Charles River Shoot

A little while ago Laura got in touch with me and asked about the possibility of having some photographs taken of herself and her friend Natalia, who were both living in Boston for six months and studying here after coming over from their home country of Spain. They wanted to have some photos taken of themselves along the Charles River so that they could have some great images of themselves here in this wonderful town.

BOSTON PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

Whilst wedding, family and landscape photography is my main area of work, as a Boston photographer, I am always open to other requests and a portrait session like this is something I’d hope to do again in the very near future. The Charles River and along the esplanade is a wonderful location for any photo shoot. Be it an engagement photography session on the Charles, a Boston family shoot or simply to have some personal photos taken like Laura and Natalia decided to do. The weather was fantastic on the day and we walked along the esplanade from Charles MGH, west along the river.

BOSTON PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

We started latish in the afternoon so that we could be along the Charles for a sunset and be able to capture some of the great light that floods across the open expanse of the river at that point. There are some great spots and a good variety of them as well, in a reasonably short distance. This allowed us to capture a wide selection of images and not have to walk far to achieve that.

BOSTON PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

I have photographed along the Charles River before, shooting a Boston engagement session just near the Science museum and down closer to the sea. It is one of my favorite locations to shoot at and Laura and Natalia were great fun to work with. We managed to get some fantastic images as the sun was setting with the Longfellow Bridge as the perfect Boston backdrop to their images.

BOSTON FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY Christening Photograhy Boston

Since I have been in Boston I have had the opportunity to capture Christening and Baptism photographs for a few couples and the very important moment for their newborn children. As a wedding photographer in MA, I’m more often in Church for weddings (or to attend Mass myself), but the opportunity to photograph this moment in a couple’s life and Christening of their child, is equally as great a pleasure to capture.

Christenings are important milestones in a child and a couple’s life, just as their weddings were. To have images and photographs of this moment is a great thing to look back on over the years to come.

I hope that as I establish myself here in Boston as a wedding photographer, that down the line I will have the chance to work with some of the couples whose weddings I have photographed and have the chance to photograph the Baptism of their children as they expand the family unit.

CHRISTENING AND BAPTISM PHOTOGRAPHER ROBERTO FARREN

Christening and Baptism photography can follow the same style as wedding day coverage, without maybe the preparation shots. There is normally a wonderful service or Mass that provides the opportunity to capture the Sacrament in candid detail and many times family get together from different parts of the country or world, providing the opportunity to photograph people that may not often meet up.

CHRISTENING AND FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY BOSTON AND MA

The celebrations after, although not on the same scale as a wedding can be just as great to photograph and again give rise to opportunities for some wonderful photos.

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY AT BENSON’S ANIMAL FARM IN HUDSON NH

I was contacted just before Christmas by Michelle with an inquiry to shoot some family portraits of her and her siblings as a present for her parents wedding anniversary, which was on Valentines Day. They were based up in southern New Hampshire, and when they called I had the perfect place to get them some family shots.

A little while back, my wife and I were told about the rejuvenation of Benson’s Animal Farm, and all the changes that had been made in the last couple of years. I unfortunately never knew it in its original glory, but my wife can remember going there as a child and often remembered seeing the elephants and the giraffes from the road, on the way driving into school.

They have recently revamped this place, and it is now a true gem of a place for families and anyone wanting to take a walk or even enjoy a spot of fishing in the pond. Benson’s Animal Park has been transformed, thanks to the hard work and efforts of the local community, who got together and made this place a really great asset to Hudson and New Hampshire once more. Benson’s now has wonderful cared for gardens and landscapes, as well as a touch of more natural habitat as well. This has made Benson’s a great location to have family photos taken, and I hope that in the spring and summer, I’ll get to work with a lot more families to capture their New England family photos here.

From the wonderful variety of plants, the perfect backdrop of the pond and trees around it, and the great old buildings at the top of the hill, you are really spoilt for choice when it comes to locations for photographing families. The open spaces and brand new playgrounds make it great for little ones as well to have a run around in.

For Michelle and her brother and sister, we wanted to get some great photos of them all together, as well as some individual shots. They were awesome to shoot with and it was a great idea for an anniversary present to their parents. While it would have been nice to have had a little snow on the scene to make for a more seasonal feel, Benson’s Animal Park is such a great location to photograph that it didn’t really matter. That, and the fact that these guys were such a pleasure to work with.

Boston family photography for the Ruiz holiday card

Meeting the Ruiz family in Boston was a great experience! They had contacted me to photograph them for some family portraits, some of which they were looking to have turned into a family card for the holiday season.

This was the first time I had shot a family with the aim of getting images for a holiday card, which in the US is a common occurrence, while in the UK is not something that is often done. Well, to say I had fun was an understatement. The two children were such great fun to work with and we got some really great images of them by themselves, as well as with everyone together as a whole family.

With the family pet jumping in and not wanting to be left out of the show, we ended up with a great selection of shots that we were all really happy with. I sure the recipients of the Ruiz family cards this year will not be able to hold back a smile as they get to see this wonderful family all together and having fun.

Boston family photographers get the chance to capture some really great emotions and close bonds. As a Boston wedding photographer, you get to capture the first part of the journey into creating a family. Hopefully, as I get to photograph more couples here in the US for their weddings, I’ll also have the opportunity to create images for them, of their families as they expand and grow.

Fall is a great time of year for family photographs in New England especially if you are looking to create family cards for the holiday season like the Ruiz family. With winter just round the corner though, comes another great change in our environment and the opportunity to make some really unique family images. Pleasant Street photography project with the Tiny Hanger

The Tiny Hanger children’s clothing store opened on Pleasant Street in Brookline less than a month ago. As part of their opening, Roberto Farren Photography teamed up with the wonderful owner of the store, Lucia, to set up a community driven photography project.

Pleasant Street has a number of vacant properties that are yet to be filled and hopefully that will change very soon. In the meantime, instead of leaving them as empty eyesores, I set about photographing local community members to fill these spaces with cheerful images of the people that make Brookline, well, Brookline.

I have recently set up my business in the Boston area, just like Lucia, and it is always nice to be able to give something to a community that you hope to be working with in the future. While I shoot mainly on location as a wedding photographer in Boston, or shoot family portraits at favorite locations in New England, this was something that I really enjoyed doing, and it offered me a very unique opportunity to capture a wide variety of people. I would like to thank Lucia at the Tiny Hanger for making this project possible and for the initial idea behind it! I would also like to thank all of those people that took part in the project. I hope that you all enjoy looking at the final display once it is up. Below are just a few great examples of the shots we got over the sittings we did at the Tiny Hanger.

BOSTON FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

As I am predominantly a wedding photographer, it is a nice change to shoot some family portraits in this wonderful town that I have made my home.

I had the opportunity of working with a great family yesterday to get their Boston family portraits over in Brookline. I had donated a family shoot as a prize to my nephew’s daycare, for a Christmas fundraiser they were running back in December and was looking forward to being able to get some shots for the winners.

We had tried to plan this shoot on so many different occasions, but each and every time we were foiled by the weather. With a Boston family photography session you have a little more flexibility than you do with a Boston wedding. We were hit by a number of heavy snowstorms during each planned meeting in the winter, and then by severe thunderstorms and very high temperatures in the spring and the start of the summer.

Eventually we got together and we had a great afternoon getting their Boston family photographs. The weather was perfect and the location was a great spot, within walking distance from the family home. It provided some unique backdrops and was great to work with available light and a little flash here and there where needed. The family was a pleasure to work with, and in addition to the photos, I had a great time talking cricket with Tatum and his dad, Cliff.
